A retro-futuristic social arcade for Meta Horizon Worlds: darts with a twist, air hockey and a glitchy vending machine, in a neon venue where up to six players hang out and compete. Built at KoffeeCup for Meta.

01 — THE PROBLEM

Make a hangout space people compete in.

Meta wanted entertaining, engaging experiences inside distinctive worlds, ones players enjoy in their own right and creators can test before bringing similar mechanics into their own worlds. Galactic Arcade’s answer: a retro-cool venue in space where friends meet, play and try to be crowned the winner.

02 — THE BUILD

Three decisions behind the arcade.

  1. Concept art: three avatars in neon visors and crowns celebrating

    Concept art first, 3D second

    The team iterated quickly in concept art to pin down the look and the moments before committing to 3D assets.

  2. UI and asset sheet for the darts game: dartboard, score display, multipliers and darts

    Many dart games, each with a twist

    Darts was developed iteratively into several variants, each with its own twist, alongside air hockey and jukebox built with partner studio Magetech.

  3. Bonus plays for pure chaos

    Between rounds, players can bash the glitchy vending machine or fire mega-darts at the neighbouring planet, making intergalactic destruction feel exhilarating.
